About Us |
Mukti is the FOSS festival of NIT Durgapur. With the sole aim of promoting Free Software, some contest, games, workshops, talks etc are conducted during Mukti. It brings together the FOSS enthusiasts, newbies and corporates together under the same roof.
Linux Users' Group, NIT Durgapur was established in the year 2003 with a bunch of people. Since then it has grown into a group of more than 200 members. Some of these members are not even students of NIT Durgapur, they are students from nearby institutes, free software hackers/activists from various places in India. Of late the members of Linux Users' Group realized the importance of GNU in Free Software and since then we have renamed ourselves to GNU/Linux Users' Group.
Gradually folks have realized the importance of contribution to the free software, and thus grew the culture of hacking free software in the college. Though we do not boast of creating huge software but definitely we have begun giving our little bit to the community back. To name a few Debayan Bannerjee(open source Indic OCR), Shreyank Gupta(contributor), Rangeen Basu Roy Chaudhary(Fedora packager), Vignesh Prabhu(contributor), Roshan Kumar Singh(Fedora packager).
We share experinces and knowledge, and help newbies learn new technology and motivate them to contribute to Free Software at Mukti.
